Who says the youth aren’t productive?

The PEACE IS Foundation’s clean-up project as a part of the Dare to be King initiative, proved that there are young men on the island that have the dedication needed to become useful citizens of St. Maarten.

It was on Saturday 30th September, that the PEACE IS Foundation with the help of many notable persons in the community arrived at the St. Peters basketball court to paint over the many walls of graffiti that enclosed the grounds. In addition to David Miller, Commissioner Wescot-Williams and Principal and teachers of the St. Maarten Academy PSVE and other members of the community, were a number of young men from various schools who were more than willing to help in the clean-up effort. PEACE IS believes that the youth of St. Peters need to be specially commended for their participation in this positive endeavour.

The recent incident where students from at least three different schools were seen breaking up a fight in St. Peters is another example that there are students who realize that violence does not resolve conflict and with little effort, we can all contribute to making St. Maarten a safer place.

Too many times we highlight the negative and forget to commend the positive efforts of the young people on the island. And so PEACE IS would like to encourage the youth of St. Maarten to continue to be productive members of society by doing any and everything necessary to stop youth violence and crime.
